Michael should give up F1 hope: Ralf
May 12, 2005 14:55 IST

Ferrari's Michael Schumacher should abandon hope of winning an eighth Formula One title this season, according to his brother Ralf.

"You have to be realistic. Ferrari is too far from the top. Michael is 34 points behind Alonso. That's a huge amount, especially because Renault are continuing to win. Ferrari can forget about this world championships," Ralf was quoted as saying in German daily Bild.

"As much as I would delight in an eighth family title -- it will no longer be," he added.

Spaniard Fernando Alonso in a Renault has an 18 point lead in the championship over Toyota's Jarno Truli.

Michael Schumacher retired from Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix for his third non-finish in five races, but believes he is still in the hunt.

"Anyone who wants to write us off doesn't know us," the seven-time world champion said on his personal Web site.
