Mauresmo exits German Open

May 06, 2005 18:26 IST
Defending champion Amelie Mauresmo was knocked out of the German Open on Friday by Russian sixth seed Nadia Petrova, who won the baseline-dominated quarter-final 6-2, 6-3. Second seed Mauresmo looked under pressure from the start, hitting a total of 34 unforced errors and six double faults in Berlin's Steffi Graf claycourt stadium.

Petrova, by contrast, hit a series of well-placed forehand winners down the wings.

Although the Frenchwoman found her form to break Petrova as she served for the match, the Russian 22-year-old broke straight back to secure a place in the last four.
