Vasco, SBT in drab draw

January 24, 2005 20:06 IST

Vasco failed to capitalize on the chances that came their way and were held to a goalless draw by State Bank of Travancore in a third round match of the ninth National Football League in Margao on Monday.

Vasco, who lost their earlier two matches, dictated terms throughout but failed to score.

Play was mostly confined to the midfield as the teams played a mediocre game.

Vasco, who had the lion share of exchanges, came close to scoring in the 37th minute but Alex Ambrose's try was saved on the goal line by defender Paul Anthony.

Earlier, Denis Cabral and Sushat Mathew's attempts failed to find the mark.

Vasco's best chance came in the 57th minute. Following a Cabral cross from the right, Kamal Thapa's shot hit the post and off the rebound Ambrose, who was left open, failed to score.

With this draw Vasco opened their account and have one point from three matches. SBT have three points from three matches.
