Germany fought back from two goals down to snatch a thrilling 2-2 draw against The Netherlands in the Champions Trophy hockey tournament in Chennai on Sunday night.
In the last match of the day's programme, after Olympic champions Australia had beaten defending champions Spain 4-2 and India rallied to shock Pakistan 3-2, the Dutch and Germans came up with a stirring display.
It was the Dutch who held the edge as they went two goals up at half-time through Roderick Weusthof, who scored in the 15th minute and in stoppage time of the first session.
But the Germans came up with a strong fightback in the second session. They scored twice in four minutes through Christopher Zeller (63rd minute) and Matthias Witthaus (66th) to avert a second straight defeat following the 1-4 loss to Australia in their opening match on Saturday.
Witthaus produced a gem of a goal. He dived to latch on to a cross by Zeller from the left and connected the ball past the Dutch goalkeeper.
