Banned lifter Sanamacha Chanu's miseries have been compounded with her employer, Central Reserve Police Force, issuing a show cause notice to her seeking an explanation as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against her for bringing a bad name to the Force.

Chanu, who was banned for life along with Pratima Kumari and S Sunaina by the Indian Olympic Association for testing positive for drugs, was issued the show cause notice by CRPF Central Sports Officer Khazan Singh on Monday.

"As apparent from the newspaper reports, the Indian Olympic Association has imposed a life ban on you based on an enquiry conducted by them into the incident of you having been found positive in doping test held at Athens on August 15 for a banned substance," Khajan Singh said in the letter.

"You are now called upon to explain the circumstances of the case and also that why disciplinary action should not be taken against you for bringing bad name to the force and the country," he said.

Chanu was found positive for diuretics while competing in the 53 kg weight category in the Athens Olympics and had blamed the Belarussian coach Leonid Taranenko for the entire fiasco.

The 25-year-old Chanu along with Pratima Kumari has also appealed against the IOA's life ban in the High Court.
