Mohun Bagan began their Kolkata Super Division football league campaign with a 2-0 victory over Wari AC in Kolkata on Friday.
Veteran Basudeb Mandal and youngster Sunil Chettri found the target for the green and maroon brigade on either side of half-time at the Mohun Bagan ground.
Bagan displayed opening match jitters, looking disjointed right through, but still could have ended the day with a more convincing victory had their forwards cashed in on the chances that came their way.
Mandal put Bagan ahead in the 44th minute, shooting home a Chhetri pass.
The winners got the insurance goal eight minutes from the final whistle as Chettri showed fine opportunism to score from a Tomba Singh centre.
