Manchester United have reached an agreement to sign England's teenage striker Wayne Rooney, the Premier League club announced.
"Manchester United Plc has reached an outline agreement with Everton FC for the transfer of the registration of Wayne Rooney, subject to his successful completion of a medical," United said in a statement to the London Stock Exchange on Tuesday.
The club added that it would provide further details when all transfer terms are completed. The media said the deal could be worth about 25 million pounds.
Rooney had arrived at United's Carrington training ground earlier on Tuesday to undergo his medical.
The Premier League transfer deadline is midnight on Tuesday, while the Champions League cut off point is midday European central time (11 a.m. British time) on Wednesday.
Rooney, England's hero at Euro 2004 in Portugal in June when he scored four times as they reached the quarter-finals, had been at the centre of a bidding war for a week between United and Premier League rivals Newcastle United.
