April 15, 2004 15:44 IST

Top seed Andy Roddick eased into the quarter-finals of the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships with a quickfire 6-2, 6-3 win over Robert Kendrick on Wednesday.

The American world number two, who won the tournament in Houston in 2001 and 2002, ousted his compatriot in just 58 minutes.

"I don't want to play any long matches," Roddick

joked after the match.

It was the 10th straight win for Roddick and 30th of the season.

In Wednesday's other matches Tommy Haas of Germany continued his comeback with a 7-5, 6-4 first round win over American sixth seeded Robby Ginepri.

Haas missed the entire 2003 season following shoulder surgery and only returned to competition in February.
