The Indian Hockey Federation says it is awaiting clearance from the doctors attending on Jugraj Singh to send the player abroad for further treatment.

"I recently met the doctors treating Jugraj. They said the player is responding well to treatment. He is making steady recovery," IHF secretary K Jothikumaran said on Saturday.

"Now we are waiting for the fitness certificate from the doctors before sending him abroad for physiotherapy.

"Most likely Jugraj will be treated either in Australia, South Africa or Germany," the IHF secretary said.

Penalty-corner ace Jugraj Singh is recovering at a hospital in Ludhiana after suffering multiple fractures in a road accident last week.

The injury has forced him to miss the September 21-28 Asia Cup, the team for which was announced in Delhi on Saturday. The player has also been ruled out of action for at least three months.

Jothikumaran said though the doctors are yet to give a time frame regarding the player's discharge from hospital, the IHF is in touch with the International Hockey Federation in order to get the "best-available medical facilities" for him.

"We have sent the recordings of the operation and other details to experts and are waiting for their response."

Jothikumaran said sponsors Sahara have offered to provide a chartered flight to bring Jugraj to Delhi if needed.
