Ferguson gets two-match ban and fine

October 20, 2003 20:47 IST
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has been banned from the touchline for two matches and fined 10,000 pounds for abusing a match official, the Football Association says.

The punishment, which related to comments directed at the fourth official by Ferguson during United's 2-1 premier league win at Newcastle United on August 23,

was announced on Monday after Ferguson attended a lengthy disciplinary hearing in Manchester.

Manchester United director Maurice Watkins told Sky Sports television that Ferguson is considering whether to appeal against the punishment.

"It is fair to say he is a little disappointed with the outcome," Watkins said.
