March 29, 2003 22:30 IST

Tata Football Academy, Jamshedpur, defeated Assam State Electricity Board 2-1 for their first win in two outings while Air India held BSF to a 1-1 draw in the 2nd division National Football League final phase, round one, matches in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.

TFA, who had lost 0-1 to Air India in their opening match of the league, garnered three points. The scores were level 1-1 at half-time.

For TFA, Vimal Pariyar and Malsawma struck in the 25th and 63rd minutes while Monoj Boro scored for ASEB in the 43rd minute.

Rain delayed the start of the second-half by about 15 minutes and the soggy field made the tussle a tame affair.

In the Air India-BSF match, Gurjith Alwal scored for BSF while captain Anthony Fernandes scored for Air India.

BSF forged ahead in the 12th minute with striker Gurjit Alwal connecting a left flank cross from Ouseph from inside the box.

Air India found the equalizer late in the match when Fernades bulged the net in the 89th minute from a goalmouth melee.

After today's matches, Air India and BSF emerged joint leaders with four points each. TFA have three points from one win while ASEB lost both the two matches they had played so far.

State Bank of Travancore will take on FC Kochin on Sunday.
