Qualifier Daniel Kiernan of England bagged a grand double when he won the men's singles final, beating unseeded Prima Simpatiaji of Indonesia 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), in the $6250 MSLTA-ITF Satellite tennis tournament (first leg) at the Dr Ranade Tennis Centre in Mumbai on Saturday.

Earlier, the Englishman partnered Ajay Ramaswami of India to win the doubles title. They beat the Indian pair of Manoj Mahadevan and Rishi Sridhar 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 in the final.

Both the pairs were unseeded.

In the singles final, the Englishman looked much fitter and faster than his lanky opponent and displayed good court coverage.

In the first set, Kiernan broke Simpatiaji in the 11th game before serving out the set at 7-5.

The second set saw both the players slugging it out in the middle and games went with serve, forcing the tie-breaker, in which the Englishman led throughout and finished off the match with a overhead volley at the net.

The singles win made Kiernan richer by Rs 39,500 while the Indonesian had to be content with Rs 27,350.

The doubles winning pair took home Rs 19,150 while the runners-up got Rs 10,000.
