Amritraj, Gajjar beaten

The Indian challenge in the men's singles of the $6250 MSLTA-ITF Satellite tennis tournament ended with the ouster of second seed Prakash Amritraj and unseeded Rohan Gajjar in the semi-finals on Friday.

Former tennis ace Vijay Amritraj's son Prakash, who holds American citizenship but represents India in International Tennis Federation tournaments, was ousted by English qualfier Daniel Kiernan 6-2, 7-6 (7/4) in an hour and 50 minutes.

Mumbai lad Gajjar, who had accounted for top seed Sunil Kumar Sipaeya in the quarter-finals, fought well in the first set but lost the second tamely as he went down to unseeded Prima Simpatiaji of Indonesia.

Simpatiaji won 7-6 (7/4), 6-1 in an hour and 40 minutes.

In the men's doubles semi-finals, Manoj Mahadevan and Rishi Sridhar of India got the better of Saurabh Kohli and  Rohan Gajjar, also of India, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4, while Daniel Kiernan of Great Britain and Ajay Ramaswamy of India beat  Hendri-Susilo Pramono and Febi Widhiyanto (Indonesia) 6-4, 6-3.
