AITA grant for promising juniors

The All India Tennis Association has announced a travel grant of Rs. 25,000 each for three promising junior players.

Chatwinder Singh, Tushar Liberhan and Divij Sharan will be the beneficiaries, according to a statement from the AITA in Delhi.

The 17-year-old Chatwinder won the ITF Grade 1 junior event in Sri Lanka in February this year. He was ranked as high as 89 in the juniors list. His schedule in the coming weeks includes the ITF satellite circuit in Mumbai, Chandigarh and Delhi.

Liberhan, 16, was the sub-junior national champion in 2001 and, though currently ranked 312, has enjoyed as high a position as 108. He will be participating in the ITF Junior circuit in Morocco, which involves a series of Grade 2 and Grade 4 events.

Sharan, 16, who plays doubles reguarly with Liberhan, will be travelling with the latter to the African continent.

Sharan is the reigning sub-junior national champion and is ranked 190.
