The International Association of Athletic Federations has disqualified American sprinter Jon Drummond from taking any further part in the ninth World Athletics Championships in Paris for behaviour "bringing the sport into disrepute".

The action is, however, a formality, because Drummond himself sent a letter yesterday to the IAAF president Lamine Diack regretting his tantrums during the quarterfinals of the men's 100m event on Sunday and voluntarily withdrawing from all competition for the rest of 2003.

The IAAF made its decision known after USA Track & Field, the governing body for athletics in the United States, said it would not be able to conduct the investigation desired by the IAAF within the deadline of 2000 Paris time on Tuesday, August 26.

The USATF also withdrew their administrative officer Michael Cain from the world championships.

The IAAf said it would now wait for a full report from the USATF before considering any further action.
