Mohammed Ashraf (28), a civil engineering student who claimed to be in love with the 22-year-old tennis player, was allegedly sending messages and making threatening calls to her cellphone asking her to cancel her engagement, police said citing a complaint lodged by Sania's father Imran Mirza.
Ashraf -- reportedly flew from Kerala -- went to Sania's house at Banjara Hills on Tuesday night and allegedly entered an argument with her father asking him to cancel her engagement as that he was in love with her, a senior police officer said.
"We had already put up a police picket at Sania's house after her father's complaint. Ashraf was arrested after he created nuisance at their house," he said.
Ashraf was booked under various sections of IPC and was being produced before a court today, the police officer said.
Sania Mirza's engagement is scheduled on July 10 with businessman Mohd Sohrab Mirza.
