You can't fight nature, says UP minster on scribe's murder. BOO him

June 15, 2015 14:42 IST

Amid growing outrage over the killing of a journalist in Uttar Pradesh at the behest of minister of state for backward welfare Ram Murti Singh Verma, yet another controversy has emerged with UP Horticulture Minister Parasnath Yadav, saying about the killing, “There are some incidents that happen in the course of nature and destiny...you can't fight nature.”

Yadav’s insensitive remarks have intensified anger against the Samajwadi Party-led government which has failed to arrest Verma for his alleged role in the murder.

Shahjahanpur-based journalist Jagendra Singh was killed last week after accusing Verma of involvement in illegal mining activities and land grabbing in a series of posts on Facebook. He was allegedly set ablaze by the minister’s henchmen on June 1 and later succumbed to his injuries.

The family of the journalist has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe.

Verma and five others have been booked in connection with the murder. A first information report was lodged following public outcry and Verma has been missing since then. Five policemen allegedly involved in the murder have been suspended.
