The Bharatiya Janata Party has suffered a major set back in Karnataka's Shikaripura town -- the home constituency of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.

All members of the BJP in the taluk, town panchayaths and town muncipal councils at Shikaripura have tendered their resignations thus forcing dissolution of these bodies.

In all, around 42 members from local bodies have quit their posts in support of B S Yeddyurappa who will tender his resignation from the BJP on Friday.

Members of the nearby local bodies, who have credited their win to Yeddyurappa, have also quit their posts.

They have all unanimously decided to join Yeddyurappa's new party -- the Karnataka Janatha Party -- which will be floated on December 9. The members stated that they will stay loyal to Yeddyurappa as he is the one who brought them to power. All these members will take part in a rally to be addressed by Yeddyurappa on Friday morning in Bengaluru.
