Yamuna nears danger mark in Delhi

Owing to incessant rains in New Delhi and its upper catchment areas, river Yamuna hovered near the danger mark on Thursday.
 
The heavy and continuous downpour forced commuters to take shelter under flyovers. Persistent rainfall forces the traffic to snarl on the waterlogged roads.
 
Officials have confirmed that water has been released from the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana, contributing to the rise in river water levels.
 
Officials have been alerted to the danger, even as the Yamuna was flowing a little above its normal mark of 202.30

metres when reports last came in.
 
The level has since increased to 204.20 meters. The state authorities have evacuated people living in low-lying areas of the river, to the safer places.
 
According to media reports, about 47,000 cusecs of water was released upstream at Hathnikund Barrage on Saturday.
 
So far a total of 307.8 mm of rain has been recorded here in the second lap of monsoons that began in the last week of June.
