Inside the bloody battle of Kobani

The battle of Kobani has become the centre-point of the US-backed onslaught against the Islamic State militants in Syria.

Syrian Kurds have been struggling for weeks against better-armed IS fighters, with US-led air strikes helping the former avoid defeat.

The battle for control of Kobani has raged for months and it continued to rage on Sunday night in some of the fiercest fighting yet. Islamic state fired 44 mortars at Kurdish parts of the town of Kobani, some of which fell inside Turkey nearby, Reuters reported.

The ISIS wants to take Kobani to consolidate its power in northern Syria.
