Bhartiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari on Saturday described the impending women's reservation in the Lok Sabha as the party's own dream expressed through its national council resolution back in 1995.

The party's core group meeting on Saturday unanimously decided to ensure the bill's passage in the Rajya Sabha on Monday for which the party has already issued a whip to its MPs to remain present and vote for it.

In a statement issued after the meeting, Gadkari said the BJP had appealed to all parties to support this revolutionary bill recognizing women's role in running the world's largest democracy.

The BJP is the only party that has provided one-third reservation to women in the party's organisation and it was the BJP-led NDA government that was the first to bring a Bill in Parliament for reservation in the Lok Sabha and Assemblies, he added.
