In yet another case of guardians of law turning into violators of law, a sub-inspector of police and the local village watchman together allegedly gang-raped a 39-year-old woman inside the premises of a police station in Uttar Pradesh Kushinagar district, a popular Buddhist destination.

While the incident took place on July 17, it was brought to light by the victim only after she managed to slip out of the station premises where she was allegedly confinement

A criminal case has been registered promptly after the incident shot into the media spotlight on Monday morning.

Both the accused are absconding.

"Police teams have been sent out to nab the culprits who have been charged with rape under sections 342 and 376 of Indian Penal Code," Zonal Inspector General of Police Bhavesh Kumar Singh told media persons.

Meanwhile, according to the FIR registered with the Khadda police station in Kushinagar, about 300 km from Lucknow, 39-year old Shyama Devi was lured by village watchman Vijayi Verma on the promise of getting her a permanent job.

On July 17 evening, Verma accompanied her to the Khadda police station where he introduced her to sub-inspector Virendra Kumar, who promised to fix a job for her.

Since it was late evening, the sub-inspector urged her to spend the night at the police station so that she could proceed to the place of her prospective employment on the following morning.

She was not only raped the same night, but also confined in the sub-inspector's home. While threatening her with dire consequences, they continued to rape her for three days after which she somehow managed to slip out of their clutches.
