Resign, that is.
That is the question on everybody's mind as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh makes his way back to India after attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.
In his absence, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi became a front-runner for the 'Bad Timing of the Year' award by publicly condemning a legislation approved by the Union cabinet led by Dr Singh.
It was, undoubtedly, Gandhi's way of showing, as the Bharatiya Janata Party bluntly stated, 'who is the real boss'.
Though no stranger to derisive comments, Dr Singh has never been humiliated in so brazen a manner, that too by a party colleague eons junior to him in terms of age, experience, sagacity and wisdom.
The opposition, and some well wishers of the PM, have already urged Dr Singh to resign from his post to salvage the vestiges of credibility, integrity or authority he has left.
Gandhi, meanwhile, runs the very serious risk of contracting diabetes, given the overload of sugary and syrupy platitudes he has been receiving from fawning Congress leaders and ministers.
Not one party leader, or Union minister, has stepped up to question Gandhi’s disrespectful behaviour or to defend the hapless PM.
The normally reticent PM has refused to react publicly to the incident.
But all eyes will be on Dr Singh when Air India One touches down at the Air Force base in Palam later today.
We present six political scenarios that may unfold after the PM’s much-anticipated return.
We are asking YOU, our dear readers, to VOTE for the most likely scenario. So go ahead and vote for which political drama you think will play out when Dr Singh returns to India.
