Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who did not campaign in assembly elections in the five states, was on Tuesday conspicuously silent even as the results were out.

No reaction came from Modi, who otherwise often reacts to national events through twitter or other forums. There were no reactions even from state Bharatiya Janata Party president or any other state leaders till late in the night.

Modi, who had been a star-campaigner for the party earlier, did not campaign in the five states including Uttar Pradesh, and BJP had said that he was busy with matters related to his own state.

But reportedly, his absence had to do with differences with BJP leadership over the induction of his arch-rival, Sanjay Joshi, who had been made in-charge for UP.

Tuesday's results were a mixed bag for BJP, which did badly in Uttar Pradesh, while its chief minister B C Khaudari lost election in Uttarakahnd.

But BJP dethroned Congress in Goa, and also managed to retain Punjab with its partner Akali Dal.
