Flood situation in Andhra Pradesh improved today as water levels receded substantially, Chief Minister K Rosaiah said Monday night.
The flood water was receding gradually from the affected areas and the inflows and outflows from the various reservoirs also came down, he told reporters.
Rosaiah said the outflow of water in Tungabhadra, Sunkesula, Narayanpur and Jurala projects came down substantially.
At 5 pm today, the outflows were 1.18 lakh cusecs in Tungabhdara, where the highest in the last five days was 1.96 lakh cusecs. In Sunkesula, the outflow was 0.75 lakh cusecs, where the highest in five days was 9.80 lakh cusecs.
In Srisailam dam, present inflow and outflow were 5.38 lakh cusecs and 10 lakh cusecs. The peak inflow was 25 lakh cusecs for eight hours on October two.
At Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada, the present inflow and outflow were 10.96 lakh cusecs and 10.50 lakh cusecs respectively. The peak outflow was 10.80 lakh cusecs.
Asked about the situation at Prakasam barrage, through which the water discharged from the dams, he said the capacity of the barrage's gates would be limited but the situation is expected to improve substantially tomorrow.
Rosaiah told reporters that the Centre would sympathetically consider the state's request for financial assistance. The chief minister, in a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had sought Rs 6,000 for relief works.
