In some bad news for Mumbaikars, the civic body on Thursday announced the extension of 15 per cent water cut across the city till August 15 due to scanty rainfall.
"The water level in the six lakes is not sufficient in comparison to the city's consumption. In a review meeting today it has been decided to extend the water cut till August 15," Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Swadhin Kshatriya told reporters in Mumbai.
The corporation had in June last year imposed 15 per cent water cut for residents and 30 per cent water cut for commercial users.
"Presently, there are 2,42,930 million litres water in all the six lakes. The level should be over 8,00,000 million litres," a civic official said.
The decision to extend the water cut was taken due to scanty rainfall, the commissioner said, adding that the BMC will review the situation again on August 15 and decide on whether to continue with the water cut.
