Was Harvinder Singh, the Delhi youth who slapped Union Agriculture Sharad Pawar in the face on Friday, invited to the literary function organised by Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited held at New Delhi Municipal Council auditorium? Or was he simply an intruder? Eyewitnesses give varied versions.

Dharmender Singh Bedi, who knows Harvinder, says that the transporter in his thirties was among the 200 people who were IIFCO invitees. But Advocate Majeed Memon, who attended the event, said the Delhi youth forced an entry.

"Harvinder Singh was not one of the invitees. He was an intruder who came there to gain cheap publicity. He hit Sharad Pawar sahib only to make an appearance on television. He even pointed out to interrogators that he is on every television channel. I was told he threw a chappal at former telecom minister Sukhram outside Rohini Court on Saturday after he was sentenced in a corruption case," Memon, who attended the event, told rediff.com.

Both Bedi and Memom said that Harvinder Singh was upset with rising prices. "He was angry because of rising prices of food items and corruption. He wanted to attract attention," they said.

The youth attacked the Nationalist Congress Party chief after the public event shouting slogans against corruption and price rise.

Harvinder Singh was detained and released after he was questioned for more than four hours by the Delhi police and the Central Bureau of Investigation.
