Vice president likely to be elected on August 2

The schedule to conduct the elections for the vice president's post is held up as the Election Commissioner H S Brahma is on a foreign jaunt. Moreover, the United Progressive Alliance-II is yet to appoint the third Election Commissioner.  

Brahma is likely to return to India on Friday and is expected to hold a meeting with Election Commission officials. 

Sources say that monsoon session is likely to be convened on July 30. Indications are that vice presidential elections will be held o
n August 2
and this date has been decided keeping in mind the availability of members of Parliament and the Election Commission.     

Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha MPs will vote for the vice president trough a paper ballot. The EC has appointed T K Viswanathan as the returning officer for the vice presidential election.
