Disgraced former Haryana Director General of Police SPS Rathore on Friday failed to get any relief from the Punjab and Haryana high court which deferred the pronouncement of the verdict on his revision petition in the Ruchika molestation case to June 29.

Vacation Judge Ajay Tewari, who had deferred the pronouncement of the verdict on Rathore's plea till Friday, adjourned the case. Rathore's lawyer-wife Abha, her sister Neerja, Central Bureau of Investigation's counsel Ajay Kaushik, Anand Parkash and Madhu Parkash (parents of Aradhna, the complainant in the case), and S C Girhotra, father of Ruchika) and a battery of media persons were among those present in the court.

Abha Rathore had filed the review petition on his behalf in the high court on May 26 seeking bail, a day after he was sentenced and lodged in the high-security Burail jail in Chandigarh.

Ruchika, 14, a budding tennis player, had committed suicide three years after being molested by Rathore on August 12, 1990.

A sessions court had on May 25 enhanced Rathore's jail term from six months to one-and-a-half years while allowing the plea of CBI and the Girhotra family, and the disgraced former policeman was sent to jail.
