Tension prevailed in Chamarjanagar district on Monday following the recovery of the body of JD(U) leader H Nagappa prompting police to remain on high alert.
Prohibitory orders were imposed in Nagappa's home district after angry crowds, which poured onto the streets, put up road blocks, disrupting traffic at several places.
Earlier, police had to open fire on Sunday night at Kamagere to disperse agitated followers of Nagappa who turned violent and set fire to three buses and stoned a Tamil Nadu-registered lorry. The Ramapura police station, the sub-registrar's office and several petty shops were also stoned.
Police said police chiefs in sensitive districts have been instructed to keep a close watch on the situation.
