Even as the Jamiat Ahle Hadith has not outrightly rejected the findings of the police investigation into the assassination of its president, Maulana Showkat Ahmad Shah, the organisation has decided to launch a parallel probe into the killing.

The police have arrested three persons involved in the murder and also claimed to have unravelled the conspiracy behind the murder hatched in high security Srinagar central jail.

The JAH has now formed a ten-member committee for conduct of the probe. The members of the committee include the hard-line All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, moderate APHC chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Umar Farooq and pro-independence Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Yasin Malik.

The acting chairman of the JAH Ghulam Rasool Malik said that 'the committee will also consult the Muzaffarbad based United Jehad Council chief Syed Salah-ud-Din'.

He, however, did not reject the police probe saying 'the committee would also look into the outcome of the police investigation.'

The Maulana was killed in a powerful blast outside a mosque in the Maisuma locality of the capital city early this month.
