Poriborton, which the Modi-Shah combine have promised Bengal, seems to be happening -- within the Bharatiya Janata Party's Bengal unit for now.

The widely propagated image of a disciplined party with a difference went for a toss this week when BJP members, who are expected to meekly obey the ruling duo's firmans, erupted in rage at the party's Bengal HQ in Kolkata when old-timers were denied tickets to contest the assembly election, overlooked in the leadership's apparent eagerness to accommodate the flood of draftees from the Trinamool Congress.

Unused to such inner-party rebellion, Mr Shah read the riot act out to Bengal's BJP leaders on Wednesday to quell the unrest quickly.

Uttam Ghosh offers his take on the unusual events that have occurred within Modi-Shah's BJP.
