Uttam's Take: Is Mehbooba a threat?

Mehbooba Mufti's Peoples Democratic Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party were part of the last government in Jammu and Kashmir state for two years, two months and 15 days.

The BJP broke off the alliance on June 19, 2018 and three years later, is clearly still incensed with Mehbooba.

She stayed in detention long after other Kashmiri leaders were released from their post August 5, 2019 incarceration.

The latest affront is the rejection of her passport application on the ground that the 61-year-old former J&K chief minister is a threat to security.

Not Mehbooba alone, even her mother Gulshan Ara's passport application, was rejected on similar grounds. Mrs Ara -- former Union home minister and two-time J&K chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed's wife -- is in her late seventies or early eighties.
