"...if you take a look at it, it is quite clear that these are acts of terrorism... So we would .. certainly condemn these acts," US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said in Tuesday in Washington.
He offered condolences to those who lost their kin in the blasts and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. Britain said it remained determined to work closely alongside India in its fight against the evil of terrorism.
"I was horrified to hear of today's bombings in Varanasi, which resulted in the loss of innocent lives, and injury to many other victims," British Foreign Office Minister Kim Howells said in a statement in London on Tuesday night.
"On behalf of the British government I totally condemn this indiscriminate violence. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims, and with the government and people of India, at this time," he said.
Observing that the attack in Varanasi follows a series of other terrorist atrocities in India, Howells said "It demonstrates once more the evil that the world continues to face.
We remain determined to work closely alongside India in its fight against this evil." Australian Prime Minister John Howard, currently on a visit to India, said in Chennai that the incident reminds the need for both India and his country to work together in the fight against the scourge of terrorism.
