Eight people were killed and 40 were seriously injured after a high tension electricity wire fell on a passenger bus in Saharanpur district on Sunday.
The bus was on its way to Manglore town in Uttar Pradesh when the mishap took place.
The injured were rushed to different hospitals in Muzaffarnagar and nearby areas.
The toll is expected to rise as many people were in a critical condition, official sources said.
