Angry at his marriage proposal being rejected, a 28-year-old man, Mohammed Omar, shot dead four people and injured two before killing himself in Jhalia village, 25 km from Faizabad, on Friday, police said.
Omar killed his lover Sajida, 24, his maternal uncle, sister-in law and nephew and later committed suicide using with the same rifle, the police said.
Two persons, who had sustained bullet injuries, were taken to Lucknow for treatment.
Senior police officials have rushed to the spot and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
