Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday climbed the watch tower of his official residence to enquire about the well being of security personnel posted on it.
Security personnel at the tower, overlooking the 5 Kalidas Marg and adjoining areas, were taken aback after finding chief minister by their side.
Yadav not only mingled with them, but also asked about their problems, sources said.
He assured them support.
Later, Yadav met people and party representatives and took their applications. "The autocratic rule of Mayawati is over, and people can easily meet the CM with their problems. The people are liking this change," party spokesman Rajendra Chowdhury said.
Yadav's moves come as a surprise for those who have seen the area around the Kalidas Marg heavily barricaded during the previous Mayawati regime.
