Unrelenting in her offensive against Bharatiya Janata Party President L K Advani for expelling her from the party, firebrand leader Uma Bharti on Friday said he had become 'incompetent' to lead the party after the Jinnah episode and demanded he step down immediately.

In a hard-hitting letter to Advani, she reminded him that it was he who had given the message of Swadeshi, good governance and Ram temple construction through his Yatras and programmes, based on which the ideological organisations and people brought him to power at the Centre.

"But you started making a U-turn on each of these issues one after another, which had its culmination in your statements on Jinnah in Pakistan. The people and the committed cadres of the party were shocked by your transformation and felt cheated," she alleged.

Bharti said Advani did the right thing by offering to step down in the wake of the Jinnah controversy because he was no more competent to remain the party's president as he had direction contrary to party ideology."

Attacking the party's second generation leaders, she said, " A gang of power hungry and unprincipled persons, each of whom wants to be the party's president pressurised Advani to withdraw his resignation."

"The party's condition is akin to that of a severed head," Bharti said, adding "You are an intelligent person. You should understand the situation. You should immediately resign keeping in view the interests of the party and the country."

The firebrand sanyasin urged him not to create a Fiji like situation where a new president was installed after taking some people hostage in Parliament. She also threatened to keep writing letters to him.
