Three persons, including two non-Assamese businessmen and a constable of the Assam police, were critically injured when their vehicle came under heavy firing from banned United Liberation Front of Asom militants near Kakopathar area in Tinsukia district of eastern Assam on Sunday afternoon.
Police informed that two businessmen identified as Pradip Kumar Paswan and Sambhu Choudhury, and Constable of 2nd Assam Police Battalion Prabin Tejiwal were travelling in a truck from Tangna Bazar to Doom Dooma when they came under fire from ULFA ultras at Orang Basti under Kakopathar police station area.
All of them were shifted to Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh in a serious condition.
Meanwhile, as directed by Assam government, the Northeast Frontier Railway has extended suspension of night-running of passenger trains in Assam area till morning of February 7 in view of the looming threat from ULFA.
Several trains have been cancelled, regulated, rescheduled or short-terminated.
A N F Railway official informed that three pairs of daily day-time passenger trains were being run between Guwahati-Tinsukia, Lumding-Silchar and Rangapara North-North Lakhimpur from Sunday to help stranded passengers because of short termination.
4055/4056 Brahamaputra Mail and 5959/5960 Kamrup Express would be short terminated at Guwahati and will not run between Guwahati and Dibrugarh. 5603/5604 Intercity Express, 5665/5666 B G Express, Guwhati-Dibrugarh Link Rajdhani Express, 5642/5641 Jhajha Express, 801/802 Guwahati-Lumding Passenger, 901/902 Lumding-Tinsukia Passenger and 707/708 Guwahati-New Bongaigaon Passenger will remain cancelled.
The 2346 Saraighat Express, 5630 Chennai Egmore Express and 5648 Guwahati Lalgarh Express will now start early from Guwahati, while 5646 Guwahati Lalgarh Express, 5640 Puri Express, 5609 Avadh Assam Express, 5658 Kanchanjungha Express and 5930 Dibrugarh Town Chennai Egmore Express are rescheduled to start late.
