The Myanmar army has zeroed in on the base of anti-talks faction of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom and other insurgent groups from the northeast. The ULFA faction led by 'commander-in-chief' Paresh Barua claimed that its base in Myanmar was under attack from the Myanmar army since Tuesday.
The ULFA statement informed the Myanmar army targeted the joint base of several militant groups from the northeast with 'direct help from Indian government'. The attack was being successfully resisted so far. The outfit apprehended that the operation by Myanmar army, which is known for its guerrilla warfare skill, will be intensified in days to come.
The ULFA, however, claimed that the attack was expected, as the 'Indian Army was supplying
heavy weapons to Myanmar through the Moreh border point in Manipur since June'.
"Such an attack will, however, not be able to diminish our strong aspirations for freedom. We want to assure the indigenous people of Assam that we are not going to allow the Government of India to destroy our freedom struggle through the gun of the neighbouring country," the ULFA statement issued by 'Lieutenant' Arunodoy Dahotia of the central publicity wing of the outfit said.
The outfit stated that the Government of India wanted to wipe out the ULFA so that it could continue to exploit the rich natural resources of Assam without any obstruction. "But it will not be easy to destroy the ULFA and its struggle will continue even after 13,000 have been martyred," the ULFA stated.
