Sex is becoming a national pastime in Britain, according to a survey by The Sun tabloid.

A team of experts led by The Sun agony aunt Deidre Sanders led the survey, conducted by Derived Knowledge. More than 5,000 people aged from 16 to 60-plus participated in it.

Two out of five men have cheated on their wife or partner an average of six times, it says, adding one in four have had affairs so often they have simply lost count.

One in four women who are married or in long-term relationships had also had at least one affair, it says, and adds, almost one in six of them had played away too many times to remember.

The survey says people in Greater London are most likely to cheat, whereas Northerners enjoy threesomes.

In Wales, 46 per cent have had ten affairs or more.

The workplace is the most popular venue for illicit sex. Other spots include planes and airport runways, walk-in freezers, in and on cars and lorries, and in graveyards.

The survey shows that, on average, men have had 14 sexual partners and women 11.

One in five have had more than 20 lovers before they are 30.

And more than half of every age group -- both men and women -- have had a one-night stand.

Brits are not too shy to experiment.

One in six of has had a two-woman/one-man threesome and nearly as many have tried the two men/one woman combo.

Nearly one in ten aged from 25 to 60 has tried partner-swapping.
