Announcing this at a function in Delhi, British High Commissioner Michael Arthur said, "Every year, 14,000 new Indian students go to study in the United Kingdom and our aim in the short term is to raise that figure to 20,000 each year."

Identifying vibrant and expanding people to people link as an important and dynamic element of the bilateral relationship, he said there were around 1.3 million British Indians in the UK who played a significant role in the country's politics and economy.

Britain issues over 250,000 visas to Indians annually of the multiple entry variety.
