Muraleedharan on a question regarding his candidature from Vattiyoorkavu constituency after returning back to the Congress fold, said, "The party has given me the seat, it is the decision of the Congress high command. On a question about the chief minister if the UDF is coming back to power, Muraleedharan said, "This is for the Congress high command to decide .Congress president Smt Sonia Gandhi will send an emissary here and he will talk to all the elected Congress MLA's and then decide upon the next chief minister."

Asked whether the Bharatiya Janata Party will get a break into the assembly, Muraleedharan said, "The BJP as a political party does not have much support at the grass root in the elections and there is no possibility of BJP breaking the jinx of wining in major elections in Kerala."

However he added, "The BJP, it is learnt, has entered into a clandestine association with the Communist Party of India-Marxist in the state."

When asked on the impact of his father's demise in the election arena, Muraleedharan said, "K Karunakaran was a towering leader in the country and certainly his demise will affect personally to me and to all the several thousands of UDF workers."
