Two terrorists were killed on Friday in an encounter with security forces in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said.
A senior police officer said troops belonging to counter insurgency Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group of the state police jointly surrounded the Adipora locality of Sopore early on Friday morning on specific information about the presence of a group of terrorists.
He said during searches, a gunfight broke out between a group of holed up terrorists and the security forces which resulted in killing of two terrorists.
The identity of the terrorists is not known yet. “The operation is over,” a defence spokesman said.
As soon as the operation ended, local residents started pelting stones at the security forces, he said, adding the clashes were going on till reports last came in.
The success for the security forces comes a day after four terrorists were killed in an anti-infiltration operation in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district near the Line of Control.
One soldier also laid down his life in that operation.
