The two Maoists -- identified as Kasa Madhi and Ura Madi were arrested from Katmateru village forest in Malkangiri district during combing operations by the district voluntary force.
"They were involved in that incident. The group of 35, including 20 militia and 10 Maoists, both of them were amongst those 35. Their job was to protect their belongings and material, including food supplies, three hours away from the incident spot," said assistant sub-inspector of police, Abhinash Reddy.
Heavily-armed Maoists had on May 25 ambushed a convoy of Congress leaders in the state’s Bastar district, killing 28 people including PCC chief Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh, Congress leader Mahendra Karma and ex-MLA Uday Mudliyar and injuring 37 others.
Senior Congress leader Vidya Charan Shukla was badly injured and was rushed to a hospital in Gurgaon for treatment. He succumbed to his injuries 17 days later.
