Two Air France flights from Los Angeles to Paris were on Wednesday diverted after a bomb threat was called in, a United States official said.

It was not known if the same person called in both threats.

Air France Flight 65, headed from Los Angeles to Paris, was diverted to Salt Lake City because of a security incident, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said.

A little while later, Air France Flight 55 from Washington’s DullesInternationalAirport to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris was diverted to an airport in Halifax, Nova Scotia because of the same reason, a government source said.

A spokesperson said the plane landed safely and passengers were taken to “a secure area in the airport terminal.

Meanwhile, investigators in Paris have recovered a cell phone believed to belong to one of the attackers, which could yield insight into the plot and the suspected network behind it, counter-terrorism and intelligence officials told CNN.

The phone contained a message, sent before the attacks began, to the effect of: OK, we're ready, the officials said.
