Indonesia tsunami toll crosses 300

The death toll in the earthquake-triggered tsunami that hit Java on Monday has crossed 300.

On Tuesday, rescue workers continued sifting through shattered buiildings and homes looking for survivors. Relief supplies have started coming in.

The Indonesian Red Cross has reported 282 dead. However, 140 people remain missing.

Nearly 30,000 people have been displaced and have been given temporary shelter elsewhere.

The West Java beach area of Pangandaran is still littered with fishing boats, automobiles, chunks of wood and other debris.

Waves as high as four metres crashed ashore on Monday afternoon along 200 km of coastline in west and central Java provinces.
