Trauma care services in India will soon get a facelift with the government proposing to set up special facilities along the country's highways.
As part of this special initiative, the government will provide telephones at a distance of every 5 km, ambulances at 50 km, speciality centres at 300 km and super speciality care centres at every 500 km, Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss told reporters in Delhi on Wednesday.
"We will also explore public-private partnership in these projects and have already tied up with Satyam Computers in this regard," he said.
Under the new initiative, special call centres would be set up to help out accidents victims.
The ministry also proposes to bring out special anti-smoking laws under the ambit of the Tobacco Act.
Under this we propose to protect all sorts of employees from the harmful effects of smoke, including those of hotels, airports and government buildings, he said.
The programme will be implemented within a period of two months, he said adding, that NGOs and international health organisations like WHO would be roped in to implement this project.
