30 die in West Bengal train mishap

Thirty people were killed when the Sealdah-New Jalpaiguri Kanchenjunga Express rammed into a truck in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district on Friday, railway sources said.

Those killed were part of a marriage party travelling in the truck. No one in the train was hurt.

The incident took place at around 1745 IST at an unmanned railway crossing in Kanki, 600km north of Kolkata.

Two medical vans were despatched to the spot and the injured were taken to hospitals in Sealdah and New Jalpaiguri.

Locals were helping with relief operations.

Some train services from Kolkata to North Bangal were affected.
