A self-styled militant commander was among the three top Laskhar-e-Tayiba ultras killed in an encounter with the police in a remote village in Doda district on Friday.
On a tip off about the presence of the militants, a joint team of the Special Task Force of police, assisted by security forces, launched an operation in Tagan Dhar in Gandoh belt, 290 kms from Doda, early on Friday morning, police said.
During cordon and search operations, militants opened fire at them and in the ensuing encounter, three militants of the LeT outfit were killed.
The slain militants have been identified as Abu Murad, a self-styled Pakistani commander and Zafarullah and Farooq Ahmed, two local ultras. The recoveries from the spot included a sniper rifle, an AK rifle, a pistol and two magazines.
